IE7 nits (Microsoft wants to OWN you) – Entry for February 02, 2006
Microsoft wants control and leaves no doubt about it during the IE 7 Beta installation. Not only does IE7 make itself the default browser without asking, but it wants MSN to be the default search and it doesn’t give up trying.
I have a program installed that notifies me when something is trying to change my defaults. Four times, I have been alerted that IE 7 wanted to change my default search and four times I denied the change. I’m wondering when I’ll get another notification.
Note to Microsoft: Insert options to change default settings, and honor it. Give users the option to change the default browser, search, mail, etc. Even requiring an opt-out is better than forcing your choice on a user.

Where can you download the program that alerts you?

Thanks for the heads up. I use Scotty the patrol dog from WinP to monitor default installs. I was tempted to download the Beta IE7 but held off, waiting for exactly these types of user comments.
