can babies be vegan if they’re breastfed?

Inquiring minds would like to know. What do you think?

I know it is a silly question but milk is an animal protein and vegans avoid animal protein (for whatever reason they choose). By breastfeeding, a baby isn’t technically a vegan.

  1. Well, I know that humans ARE animals, but in defense of my “yes” answer I’ll say that most Americans distinguish humans as being separate from (usually “better than”) animals- for example, I am prepping a course right now for undergrads titled “Man and Animal”–not, I’ll note, “Man as Animal”- although that would be more accurate. So, because we tend to conventionally separate the two, even though it is technically/scientifically accurate to call breast milk animal protein, based on this false social premise, it is actually considered “human protein”- so fair game for a vegan! πŸ™‚

    Is Casimir a vegan?

  2. You’d make a great lawyer and, might I add, better politician with an argument like that. Under your definition, Casimir is a vegan (at least for now). πŸ˜‰

The argument falls apart because, in that way, a cannibal can argue that he is a vegan if he strictly eats only human protein. That is, unless most Americans would agree with you. πŸ˜€
